Opera Australia To Continue Paying Staff

One of the counties largest theatrical production companies, Opera Australia, makes a commitment to continue paying their workforce.

With theatres across the city forced to shutter productions for the foreseeable future to help slow the spread of COVID-19, Opera Australia like many companies is faced with a loss of their primary income stream. The company however will not be laying off staff and thus adding to the growing unemployment lines we’ve seen over the last week. Instead Opera Australia will be offering their staff access to a salary package equivalent to 80% of their base salary through to the end of May.

In addition, the company is continuing discussions with the relevant federal and state governments to secure further provisions that will enable them to continue to support their workforce beyond May.

“For many this is the most challenging time of their lives, and certainly for the people of Opera Australia,” said chairman David Mortimer. “On behalf of the Board, we are grateful to everyone that makes up the Opera Australia team for their efforts, along with their patience and support through these difficult times… their commitment, tireless efforts, passion and unique skills define our company.”
