The grand art deco building that once belonged to the Maritime Services Board is the perfect home for contemporary art. Situated on the western shore of Circular Quay, it is itself a showpiece, with the facade being regularly used as a laser canvas for the Vivid Festival. In 2012, a modern extension was added to the building, providing more exhibition space and facilities. The museum hosts a constant program of progressive art from around the world, as well as showing its own permanent collection on rotation. The cafe is a great place to start, end, or take a short break from your visit and the museum shop is worth checking out.
