FORMDance Projects overarching DANscienCE Moving Well program explores the nexus between dance and science in the fields of health, well-being and longevity. One of the major highlights of the program is the interdisciplinary performance piece, Red.

Created by acclaimed choreographer Liz Lea, Red explores her own  personal experience with endometriosis whilst also aiming to tell a much more grand, “universal story.”

“My intention with the piece was to put my story on the stage so that others wouldn’t make the same mistake,” explained Lea. “Listen to your body and be mindful of what it tells you.”

As part of the creation process Liz employed the talents of a number of other creatives from a variety of disciplines in order to add multiple layers of depth and nuance to the piece.

Some of the artists involved in the piece included fellow choreographers Vicki Van Hout, Virgina Ferris and Martin del Amo alongside cinematographer Nino Tamburri, editor Arianna Bosj and finally dramaturg Brian Lucas.

“With such a large and experienced team, it was a big job bringing all the voices to the table. We worked on the piece over a five-year period and we all spent time in research processes together,” explained Lea. “The work is exhausting – particularly the rehearsals – but rewarding.”
