With more people focused on their health and body posture, young people are turning to recliners, sparking a resurgence in the lounge furniture once typically associated with old men smoking pipes and poor design.

One person who has witnessed the trend first hand owner of Annandale Interiors Kim who said young people are opting for beautifully crafted pieces with a hint of continental sophistication.

She said the recliner was one of the worst pieces of design to come out of the 20th century but said the comfort and practicality of the chair could not be denied.

“Gone are the days of old men smoking with slippers on and horrible old mechanisms that protrude from the sides like big gearsticks,” she said.

“Sleek, discrete, elegantly timeless and beautifully crafted family heirlooms are what we like to house.”

Kim’s approach to interior design is focused on the customer’s personal taste and promotes a sometimes eclectic mode of decoration which she believes can be an expression of individual personality and reminder of past experience.

Kim’s philosophy is “nobody knows their own taste better than themselves, be it good or bad”.
