FACT: Gin tastes even better when you find out it’s been made by a guy who started distilling spirits in his cubby house when he was only 11 years old, so that he could pick up chicks. Gasoline Pony‘s gin tasting, presented by Nip of Courage, proved to be extremely educational for people like me who consider themselves ‘gin drinkers’, but in reality, rarely ever venture beyond the comfort zone of the classic G&T. Armed with seven snifter glasses, I was able to experience some of Australia’s finest craft gins, including McHenry’s award-winning Navy Strength and Barrel Aged gins, Botanic Australis’ gin – which contains 14 native Australian botanicals and smells exactly like the bush floor – as well as getting to taste Australia’s only sloe gin. To coincide with the tasting, Marrickville small bar, Gasoline Pony launched their exciting new gin menu, which features many of the brands that were showcased at the tasting.
