Food News – Eden Road Wines

Ever keen to broaden my own food and wine knowledge, later this month I am heading down to Murrumbateman to experience vintage at Eden Road Wines. For quite a few years now I have been a fan of this boutique wine company, who make a surprisingly large number of wines utilising grapes grown in NSW High Country. To get me up to speed, National Sales Manager Ralph Chalmers treated me to an at-home tasting across their range. My journey began with the Eden Road The Long Road 2014 Pinot Gris, a wine so pretty and coral pink from being left for two days on the skins, it prompted them to revise the bottle to properly show it off! And believe me: this savoury wine, priced under thirty dollars, will restore your lagging faith in pinot gris. After a quartet of Chardonnays that helped me better grasp terroir, I tried a cracking Eden Road Gundagai 2012 Shiraz. It’s not my usual varietal, but this peppery McLaren Vale-style, with a fifty-buck asking price, is soft and lovely with plenty of dark fruit, so it completely won me over. You’ll find the pinot gris poured at Bowery Lane, and the shiraz at Wine Odyssey, or you can buy them direct from the winemaker.
