Marcia Hines – Amazing

She’s been an Australian icon – a collective sweetheart, really – for several decades. So, it feels wrong to say anything negative about Marcia Hines. However, it’s hard to imagine anyone getting excited over this album. The musical equivalent of a digestive biscuit, it’s bland and predictable but perhaps somewhat comforting.

Line in the Sand does seem informed by genuine conviction, Coldest Winter Nights and the Anastacia-esque Holla have a bit of chutzpah about them, but there’s nothing particularly memorable here. Except the Russell Crowe duet Remedy, which is memorable for the wrong reasons.

On the positive side, Hine’s voice is strong and the production is polished. (PH)
