ON/OFF

What do a cattle-drover from McLeod’s Daughters and a broke rebel with anger issues in ON/OFF have in common? The wonderfully versatile Lisa Chappell.

If performing in this naughty new cabaret isn’t enticing enough, she has also penned the script.

“Writing’s fairly solitary work,” Chappell says, “but going out afterwards and performing isn’t. They’re different beasts, and I love them both.”

In ON/OFF just before the curtain rises, the pianist throws in the towel, some startling news arrives on stage, and two small-time cabaret singers struggle to keep a whole lot more than the show together.

“Marissa [Dikkenberg] and I get to sing, dance, scuffle and give new meaning to some great old jazz songs. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Chappell says.

With live accompaniment from Daryl Wallis, ON/OFF is bound to be peppered with laughter and mayhem. The Bordello Theatre aims to provide an inimitable look into the wonderful world of (strictly adult only) cabaret. (RG)
