JACK CHARLES V THE CROWN

JACK CHARLES V THE CROWN

Uncle Jack is quite a character and an Australian legend to boot. The veteran actor, Koori elder and musician was, until recently, also a heroin addict and cat burglar.

Jack Charles v The Crown is his story, told by Charles and it runs the gamut from the Stolen Generation to film sets and Her Majesty’s prisons with everything in between.

As co-founder of Australia’s first Indigenous Theatre group in 1971 (Nindethana) he is considered a national treasure and has plenty of stories to share from his long and wildly varied life.

Full of infectious optimism, Jack Charles v The Crown turns tales of addiction and crime into a vagabond’s progress – a guide to reaching the age of grey-haired wisdom with comment on the history of Australia, both social and political.

Throughout this theatrical journey, a three-piece band will accompany Charles as his one-man show delights audiences at Glen Street Theatre. (LL)
