THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT

THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT

When the Broadway production premiered two years ago it was met with a swag of award nominations. It seemed audiences and critics could not get enough of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ writing. Thanks to Tap Gallery and Workhouse Theatre Co, Sydneysiders will now be treated to the show described as a high-octane, verbal cage match about love, fidelity, and misplaced haberdashery.

“It’s a whole new type of writing,” explains actor Megan O’Connell. “He writes in a very funny, punchy, visceral way.”

It follows the story of Jamie who is out on parole from rehab and his partner Veronica (played by O’Connell). They’ve been together since the 8th grade and nothing can come between them. That is, until the hat …

“Victoria is one of those great feisty roles that don’t come along too often,” O’Connell explains. “She seems like a tough chick but she’s actually quite hurt and vulnerable which is a lot of fun.”

“It really is a gutsy play with a message about coping day-to-day when you’ve had a bad life or bad loss,” she continues. “It’s one of those plays where you talk about it for hours afterwards.”
