With events season gearing up, if (like me) you decide whether you’ll attend events based on who is catering them, this year’s caterer to watch out for is Forte Catering. They recently won the national award for Best Caterer at an Event at the 2012 Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Awards. If that’s not reason enough, my partner can’t stop raving about their food-station style catering at the launch of this year’s Biennale. His eyes bugged out at the slider station where he got to build his own mini burger – who said catering had to be boring?

Here’s something you won’t get to eat every day – though you’ll have to leap on it! Heinz Beck is basically the go-to guy for Italian. He has more Michelin stars than any other chef in the world representing Italian cuisine. You can catch eight courses of his dazzling cuisine on the 28th and 29th November, or on the 1st December at Caffe Sicilia. Despite the rather hefty price tag ($350/head) these three dinners are sure to sell out. He’s cooked for Tyra Banks, Beyonce & Jay-z – need I say more?

The Kumato is back in season. In case you were wondering, it came about as an accidental cross between wild and domestic tomatoes at the edge of Luis Ortega’s farm in Spain. I recently got reacquainted with them at a lunch with some Aussie growers at Chiswick in Woollahra. I liked them best pickled in a salad with rosa radish, goat’s cheese and basil. My top tip direct from the grower’s mouth is: don’t store them in the fridge – it kills their flavour. Pick some up at Parisi’s in Rose Bay.

Warmer weather means it’s time to celebrate drinking dry, textural Rosé wine – and drinking pink is not just for women! My male companion loved the 2010 Chateau la Mascaronne Cotes de Provence Quat’Saisons Rose (RRP $34) I brought home, as much as I did. With a beguiling salmon pink hue, raspberry aroma and clean, dry finish, it’s basically a poster-child for the kind of Rosé I like to drink. Consider it Sunday afternoon in a glass, and with it now imported by the crew at Global Grapevine, you can experience a little ‘Sunday afternoon’ on any day of the week…
