Just when I thought I was getting too old for music festivals, Big Day Out, goes and hires Porteno/Bodega boys Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz. They’re the ambassadors for Chow Town, a ‘Hawkers Market’ of pop-up mini-versions of Australia’s finest and most acclaimed restaurants. Dishes already being batted around include lobster corn dogs and American barbeque style brisket and pulled pork, so you might want to organize yourself a Big Day Out ticket for Friday 18th January, 2013!

Lucky Leichhardt has just scored a great new burger joint by the name of Bonarchè Burgers.  Roger Bond (The Butcher) and Tracy Archer (The Chef) both have Meat & Livestock Australia in their pedigrees, so as you can imagine, their ground-daily burger patties are things to marvel at. While the business idea emerged “over a bottle or two of red wine”, the more serious business of improving the suburb’s takeaway food is already underway – and my stomach and tastebuds definitely approve!

Parramatta’s Church Street Mall is a cultural melting pot on most days, but never more so than during the Parramasala Festival. Running from the 8th-11th November, it includes entertainment like a Bollywood Block Party (featuring Kamahl) and the Masala Markets. They offer up a smorgasbord of South Asian inspired food from handmade Nepalese momos (dumplings) to Sri Lankan hoppers and Afghani savoury flatbread.
