LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide September 6th
This Thursday September 6th local electronic trio Seekae will be previewing new material they’ve been working on at the Basement. Since the release of their second album +Dome last year Seekae have toured Europe, the US and Japan- and perhaps most significantly- were one of only two Australian acts to feature at this year’s Vivid Festival where their show, featuring dazzling visuals and an eight piece orchestra accompaniment, sold out well in advance. Check out their newest track Yech as an indication of things to come. Seekae will be supported on the night by Kangaroo Skull and Thomas William.
On Friday September 7th if you find yourself in the mood for some sophisticated lovin’ then your best bet will be to get on down to Goodgod Small Club for the launch of Dony Benét’s upcoming album Electric Love. Benét’s live show combines dancefloor friendly sounds with tongue in cheek seductive lyricism and his penchant for fine Italian menswear. In addition, if you’re hoping to experience the night to the fullest you may want to get along to this event in your Sunday best to maximise your chance of success in the game of love. Support on the night will be Fishing.
On Saturday September 8th Melbourne folk-punk-rock group The Smith Street Band will be launching their second album Sunshine & Technology at the Annandale Hotel. The group’s first album No One Get’s Lost Anymore was met with much enthusiasm by music press and was hailed one of the best Australian albums of 2011 for its honesty and its Aussie pluck. Supports on the night are Restorations (USA), Hoodlum Shouts and Milhouse.
Sunday September 9th will see the Opera House Studio host an acoustic set by the talented Patrick Wolf. The singer-songwriter will be playing a stripped back set of the romantic folk-pop he has become renowned for and will feature Wolf on grand piano, celtic harp, dulcimer and more.
On Monday September 10th classic folk-rock band America will be revisiting the music that made them such a hit in the 1970s like Horse With No Name, I Need You and Sister Golden Hair. Produced by legendary Beatles producer George Martin, America’s music has that timeless quality and the group is still touring heavily worldwide and putting in some memorable live performances. That’s happening at the Enmore Theatre.
Finally, on Wednesday September 12th, you can catch UK rock musician Barry Adamson at the Factory Theatre. Whatever musical style you can name, you can pretty much guarantee that Adamson has played it, working with his own material and with artists such as Nick Cave, Iggy Pop and Depeche Mode. His latest album I Will Set You Free comes 34 years after the release of his first work and a trip along to this gig will be an opportunity to witness an amazing talent at work.
