Thursday September 20th Adelaide hard rockers The Angels return to celebrate the release of their long awaited new album Take It To The Streets. The influential group that started some 40 years ago will be playing material from their newest record, as well as a whole host of classics such as No Secrets and Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. You can catch this show at The Bridge Hotel.
On Friday September 21st Brisbane five piece Hey Geronimo are in town to promote their debut self-titled EP. Their upbeat indie-pop tunes are fun, catchy and very difficult to get out of your head once you’ve heard them and the group has been building a reputation for some pretty raucous live shows which you can witness at FBi Social along with The Griswolds and Lime Cordiale. At the Oxford Art Factory, one of the sharpest knives in the local hip-hop cupboard Urthboy will be performing some of his latest material. This member of Sydney collective The Herd, has a new track titled Naive Bravado which features Aussie soul-sensation Daniel Merriweather and is a blissful collaboration from two very innovative artists. Urthboy will also be joined on the night by the powerful Last Kinection.
On Saturday September 22nd The Red Rattler will be presenting an uplifting night of African music when they host a fundraiser for the not for profit cultural organisation Bembeya African Dance Club; that is dedicated to the advancement of African music in NSW. The night will feature reggae group The Majestics and the feel good sounds of Chris Gudu. Over at the Enmore Theatre one of New Zealand’s finest musical exports: Katchafire return to Sydney to perform music from their most recent release On The Road Again. The album is awash with bass heavy one drops, smooth horns and of course those silky vocal harmonies that make ‘Aoteroa’ reggae so damn irresistible.
Sunday September 23rd Crystal Barreca will be launching her debut EP Dreaming at the Vanguard. The singer, trumpet player, composer and arranger has created an EP of sophisticated and catchy pop numbers that blend soul, reggae and jazz; yet if the music wasn’t already smooth enough Crystal has an adoring singing voice that will just sweep you away. She’s supported on the night by Rosie and Natalie Mage.
Finally, on Wednesday September 26th, you can catch one of Australia’s premier jazz groups Mike Nock Trio Plus at 505. Nock was once pianist for Grammy award winning saxophonist Yusef Lateef and currently teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and he’ll be joined on stage on the night by some of the most exciting emerging players in Sydney.
