LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide September 13th

This Thursday September 13th at the Standard, funk/soul collective Sola Rosa will be performing in order to promote their newest album Low and Behold, High and Beyond. The group, while a musical four piece, are joined onstage by five vocalists all with their own distinct and individual styles giving this act a high voltage live presence. Across town, ‘Femme Locale’ at the Basement is a showcase of local emerging female artist with the specific aim of promoting promising talent. The night will feature Rainbow Chan, Miss Little, Lucy B and Lily So and the Basement will also act as a space for visual artists to display their artworks.

On Friday September 14th local hip-hop label Big Village Records will be celebrating the release of their latest compilation Big Things Volume Two which features tunes from a whole host of Sydney artists such as Ellesquire, Daily Meds, True Vibe Nation and heaps more. It just so happens that the aforementioned acts will be performing on the night and since the last few Big Village Record nights have been sell outs you’d best act quick if you want to get along to it. It’s at the Oxford Arts Factory. At the Metro Theatre, New York singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson will be playing a show in honour of her fifth studio album Human Again. Michaelson’s most personal album to date has also been her most successful; making waves in the US Indie charts and propelling her to heights of recognition previously garnered by the likes of Feist and Regina Spektor. She’s supported on the night by fellow American musician Greg Laswell.

On Saturday September 15th, over at the Sandringham Hotel, the latest installment of ‘Eat Noise’ is taking place and involves 18 local acts over three stages. Acts such as Mercury Sky, Surrender The Sun and Bellisura will be performing and as added incentive to attend: $5 from each ticket sold will head towards the Starlight Children’s Foundation, not to mention that the ‘Sando’, besieged financially by the banks, could probably use a little extra support right now to stay open as a local live music venue.

Sunday September 16th sees indie singer-songwriter Lanrae take the Vanguard stage to preview material she wrote with young indigenous women that she spent time with in the Northern Territory. Her debut single Dancer is currently receiving national airplay and the young lady is gaining repute for her deeply introspective and heartfelt lyrics that are often frank, yet powerful and moving. Lanrae will be supported on the night by Anikiko and Elisha Keen.

Finally, on Monday September 17th, you can catch the Greg Coffin Trio when they perform at 505. Pianist Greg Coffin has been a player on the Sydney jazz scene for many years and he’ll be joined by Cameron Undy on bass and Nic Cecire on drums as they showcase tunes from their recent album, the uniquely titled It’s Neither Either Or. It’s Both And.
