SIMON CALLOW: ON DICKENS & THEATRE

Simon Callow is best known for his work with Britain’s National Theatre and his captivating roles in such films as Amadeus, Shakespeare in Love and Four Weddings and a Funeral. But now this veteran performer is set to make his debut on the Sydney Opera House stage and regale his audience with a moved reading of his book Charles Dickens And The Great Theatre Of The World which examines Dickens’ obsession with the theatre and performance.

Over the years Callow’s relationship with Dickens has ranged from starring in the masters plays to featuring in numerous television and film adaptations of Dickens’ work. “Playing Dickens and performing his work has been like standing in front of a blazing fire,” he says. If you are a fan of Callow’s and a lover of Dickens no doubt you will be warmed by the creative flames On Dickens & Theatre will no doubt spark.
