The new MacBook Pro

This week saw the launch of Apple’s new MacBook Pro laptops. Some of the features will please many customers.

Retina display

Apple has extended it’s Retina screen technology it developed originally for the iPhone and iPad to the MacBook Pro. It composes screen images from 5 million pixels. That’s 3 million more than the best HD TV on the market at the moment in case you are wondering. It’s 2880 x 1800 resolution displays a sharpness of image that easily outstrips a 60 inch HD TV at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Flash Storage

The new MacBook comes with Flash technology storage, moving away from the SATA standard of previous generations. The flash technology improves performance in multiple functions such as opening files, copying files and booting up, not to mention the video and photo processing improvements. Apple claims that boot up is 2.4 times faster on the new Mac compared to the old. Final Cut Pro users will see a 1.3 times increase in speed for common tasks.

The increased speed is supported by a storage drive with less moving parts than a traditional hard drive. This also means the machine is quieter when it is running and can be in stand-by mode for up to 30 days, which means you can pick it up from where you left off any time within the last month.

Long-lasting battery

The battery will stay charged for seven hours under normal usage. Also it will stay charged for 30 days when the machine is in instant-on standby time. Which means you can put your MacBook Pro to sleep, and it’ll come back on instantly — after a day, a week or even a month. With Power Nap coming this Christmas in OS X Mountain Lion, your MacBook Pro can continue to receive new email and calendar invitations while it’s asleep. And when it’s connected to a power source, it can download software updates and make backups with Time Machine. So the next time you open your notebook, everything’s right there waiting for you.
