LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide May 31st

This Thursday May 31st, Sydney indie-rock group Dappled Cities are making a return from the wilderness to launch Run With The Wind; their first single in over three years. After touring the world on the back of their critically hailed 2009 release Zounds, the group has spent time across the US and Europe writing and recording new material for their upcoming album. Expect the group to feature new material at their upcoming show, which is taking place at the Oxford Art Factory. Venue 505 is where local jazz quartet The Vampires will be playing the final date of their current East Coast tour. Their latest album release Garfish is a groovy compilation of instrumental jazz gems, featuring Caribbean and South American rhythms and melodies produced by sax, trumpet, double bass and drums. The group is comprised of some of the hottest young Sydney musicians and the album itself (the group’s third) has earned much praise from local music press.

On Friday June 1st, Chase The Sun will be playing a show at the Vanguard and anyone that has already witnessed the group live can attest to the power of the three-piece, fronted by guitarist and singer Jan Rynsaardt, that pummel out blues and rock & roll numbers that would make the greats of the genre stop and take note. They’re supported on the night by Blind Lemon.

On Saturday June 2nd, Canadian one woman cello orchestra Zoe Keating will be playing an show at Notes Live in honour of the release of her latest album Into The Trees. The performer is renowned for much of her cello work with artists such as Tears for Fears, DJ Shadow, Rasputina and Paolo Nutini, and her solo work is characterised by the use of laptops and technology to record and layer her cello to create epic walls of haunting and moving soundscapes. Alternatively, at the Standard, Sydney psychedelic surf-pop group Deep Sea Arcade will be launching their highly anticipated and widely acclaimed debut album Outlands. The release was recently featured on Triple J’s Album Of The Week and as album of the week in much of the local street press; all praising the group for their ingenuity and pop appeal. Deep Sea Arcade has just returned from touring the country as support for Children Collide and the mighty Kaiser Chiefs and the group finally get to headline their own tour with support from The Cairos and Woe & Flutter.
