BOB DOWNE’S 20 GOLDEN GREATS

BOB DOWNE’S 20 GOLDEN GREATS

Bob Downe is back and with him he has brought his 20 Golden Greats. This is pure Bob Downe – no dancers, no band and no big sets, just a man, some backing tracks, a pants suit and of course that wig.

Mark Trevorrow (Bob’s alter-ego) says the show brings the character back to where he began and gives the audience the chance to get up close and personal with Australia’s King of Kitsch.

But a little known fact is that Bob Downe’s solo career may have never taken off if it wasn’t for the coaxing of Trevorrow’s manager Larry Buttrose. Trevorrow says, “The thing about performing for me was that it was an adventure that you went on with a bunch of fabulous mates. The idea of doing it solo was really horrible to me because it meant loneliness and that you didn’t have anybody else to share the experience with.”

But fortunately for Australian audiences Buttrose convinced him to go it alone and a national sensation was born.

That was 28 years ago and since then Bob Downe, the Prince of Polyester, has become one of Australia’s best known comedy icons, loved by fans all over the world.

The show has toured successfully to The Edinburgh and Melbourne Comedy festivals and now Sydneysiders finally have the opportunity to catch up with the Prince of Polyester. We firmly suggest you take it.
