LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide April 26th
This Friday April 27th Melbourne indie two-piece Big Scary will be playing a set at the Oxford Arts Factory as part of their Vacations national tour. Their debut album was received with much enthusiasm and they were fortunate enough to be selected to play the world renowned SXSW festival in Austin, Texas while embarking on a solid north American tour. Get along to catch an Aussie band on the up. For some local indie rock, inner west four piece Made in Japan will be playing at FBi Social. Their recently released debut LP Sights and Sounds is a groovy upbeat swag of indie-pop numbers with delicious guitar hooks, driving rhythms and catchy vocal melodies. They’re supported on the night by The Salvadors, Jubilants and Pear Shape. Across town, Blues Mountains hip-hop MC Dialectrix will be playing a show off the back of the release of his latest single New Generation at the Annandale Hotel. Dialectrix tempers his soulful hip-hop music with raw beats, up-tempo flows and rhymes about social injustices along with a whole swag of party anthems. He’ll be joined by inner west whizz kid Ellesquire.
On Saturday April 28th at the Beresford Hotel, up-and-coming live electronica dance act Pigeon will be playing a set of electro, drum & bass, dubstep and more by combining live instrumentation with electronic samples and sequencing. The group have been touring the festival circuit playing at Splendour in the Grass, Peats Ridge and Parklife and they’re garnering a reputation for their electric live performances with all signs pointing towards Pigeon being a band to watch this year. Victorian acoustic singer-songwriter Gossling will be bringing her catchy acoustic-pop to the Basement. Her unique voice sings of dark relationship themes as it floats prettily above her dusty guitar playing, twangy guitar leads and galloping wild-west rhythms. Gossling’s music is full of swagger and adventure and it’s bound to be a fun night. Over at Notes Live a big night of blues is taking place as three longstanding Australian blues acts get together to celebrate the sound. Foreday Riders, Robert Susz’s Continental Blues Party and Bruce Bongers’ Downhome Quartet have all been playing the blues since the 1970s and are still doing it with the same burning passion after all these years. The night will also culminate with an all star blues jam that’s sure to bring the house down.
On Monday April 30th, for an unbridled sonic assault, death metal gods Arch Enemy are playing at the Manning Bar to showcase tunes from their latest slab Khaos Legions. The Swedish five piece have released nine albums and have been slaying audiences since the mid 1990s with their ridiculously tight live performances, led by front-woman Angela Gossow, who quite seriously has to have the most brutal metal singing voice in the business. Supports on the night are As Silence Breaks and Datura Curse.
