Contemporary art nurtured in Rozelle
A brand new arts precinct has opened at Sydney’s College of the Arts (SCA) at the University of Sydney. dLux Media Arts, Artereal Gallery and Paper Plane Gallery have joined together to create the Rozelle Contemporary Art Precinct (RCAP), a part of Art Month Sydney.
The College’s dean, Professor Colin Rhodes said: “Sydney College of the Arts is excited to be working with leading contemporary art organisations in Rozelle to bring greater public awareness to the thriving contemporary art scene that exists in this part of the city.”
“Rozelle has for many years played an important role in both the development and the representation of emerging artists, and many of Australia’s most well known artists have studied at SCA,” he said.
“The RCAP marks a new and exciting stage in our partnerships with dLux MediaArts and Artereal Gallery, who have represented and exhibited work by many of our students, staff and graduates.”
The March 9 launch saw Rozelle’s art scene highlighted with street art, site specific installation and sculpture, performance, video and new media art.
An RCAP board member and SCA marketing manager, Nerida Olson said: “As a graduate of SCA, it has been particularly exciting to work with such a talented and passionate group of contemporary art providers to bring greater awareness to the thriving contemporary art practices in Rozelle.”
“It was wonderful to see so many people come out to celebrate our new initiative and to recognise the rich, diverse art scene of Rozelle,” she said.
“After such a successful inaugural even, the RCAP team look forward to continuing to present programs that bring greater awareness to the arts in our local community.”
