LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide Dec 8th

This Thursday December 8th Jedi Mind Tricks are making a special visit to The Factory Theatre from the United States to play their brand of jazzed up hip hop. They’ve been kickin’ it since 1996 and apart from making a whole slew of genre-rocking albums they’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the biz such as GZA, Percee P and Immortal Technique. They’re joined by Outerspace. On Friday December 9th soulful roots-reggae extraordinaire Declan Kelly will be on show at 505. It’s a night that’s bound to be filled with feel good vibes and smiling groovers – Kelly is always backed by the hottest of the hot musicians from within the local live music scene whenever he takes stage. Prepare to feast on some soul food. On the same night Sydney beat professors Hermitude will be launching the first single from their upcoming album at The Standard. These guys are simply superb at sending dance floors into a frenzy and on top of this the new single, Speak Of The Devil, is a truly infectious dance floor stormer. It will not be a disappointing night. All the way from Texas, the funk, rhythm and blues group Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears are returning – after playing a heartstopping show at Splendour In The Grass earlier this year – to once again blow our minds. If you’re into the unbridled funk and blues of old such as James Brown and Howlin’ Wolf then you’ve gotta get on the good foot and check this band out. On Saturday Decemeber 10th The Manning Bar is hosting one of the most regarded and ground breaking rock musicians of the last ten years. Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta and At The Drive In will be playing a show of his solo material. He’s actively one of the busiest musicians at the moment with not just The Mars Volta keeping him occupied as he also dabbles in film making and soundtrack writing. Expect this night to be engaging from start to finish. Sydney indie rockers Howling Bells are back with a new album’s worth of material and will be doing so at The Standard. After successful stints in the UK and Europe it’ll be a special opportunity to play to their home crowd. Finally on Sunday December 11th the most recognisable baritone voice in hip hop music Chali 2na – from the once legendary Jurassic 5 – will be playing upstairs at The Beresford. His solo albums have been ample proof that there is life after the juggernaut which was J5 and it’ll be a fun night no doubt of waving hands in the air and dancing until your feet hurt.
