LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide Dec 22nd

This Thursday 22nd December The Basement is hosting a gospel tribute night in honour of christmas and will feature some of the most seasoned blues and soul musicians from Sydney. You’ll be able to catch Darryl Beaton, D1 Cartel and fleet fingered virtuoso family group The Martinez Brothers. At 505 jazz and soul goddess Lily Dior And The Soul Contenders will be playing tunes from her upcoming blues and roots-tinged album. Along with her beautifully dynamic voice, which has seen her share the stage with the late great Jackie Orszackzy, her talented band will be one to experience as they’ve been one of the most highly sought after groups to play a number of leading Australian jazz festivals and club nights. Friday 23rd December will be a huge night for Aussie hip-hop. Starting at the Annandale Sydney hip-hop label Big Village are throwing a whopping big Christmas party with a lineup chock full of label acts. Some of the acts concerned are True Vibe Nation, Tuka, Daily Meds and Ellesquire, who has been flooring audiences during the recent tour of his debut album Ready and whose single On The Prowl has been on heavy rotation on Triple J. Across town Melbourne emcee MC Jeremedy aka Grey Ghost will be playing tunes from his new EP at the Beach Rd Hotel. One time member of The Melodics, his music is a diverse blend of hip-hop, dubstep and rock with big beats, soulful raps and monsterously hooky choruses. At FBi Social West Australian rapper King Brown will bring his entertaining brand of heavy-rock-hip-hop for all to enjoy. His style features tongue in cheek rhymes and stories of rising up and determination. He’ll be joined by local acts 4th Wall City and High Noon. On the ska/reggae tip local 10 piece group My Tys will be playing a show at The Basement which will no doubt have everyone up on their feet and rocking the roof off the Circular Quay venue. At 505 one of the hardest working instrumental groups in the country The Subterraneans will be playing their blend of rock, funk, reggae and jazz. Their self titled debut album won the Australian Jazz ‘Bell’ award for best ‘Jazz Blend’ album and their live shows have had nothing but rave reviews so it’ll be an excellent night of music. This Monday 26th December you can celebrate Roxing Day at the Annandale Hotel as a whole host of acts will be making sure you work off that Christmas feast. Veteran Aussie punk-rock group Celibate Rifles will be joined by Gay Paris, Raise The Crazy and Dune Buggy Attack Squadron, Sativa Sun and Rust.
