LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide Nov 24th

On Thursday 24th November, 60s soul revivalist five piece Boom! Bap! Pow! are visiting us from Perth to bring their pop and R&B grooves. Their smile-inducing and infectious sounds are sure to get the party rocking. Support by Kira Puru & The Bruise. Across town, This Version will be bringing their version of reggae styling to The Beach Rd Hotel. They received a rapturous response to their recent set supporting Kiwi reggae gods Katchafire and they’ll be sure to continue that trend in their quest to spread some reggae sunshine on the night. They’re supported by Benjalu, Bentley and Mike Who. There’s a unique opportunity to catch wonder electronic-indie rock group Jape who are here from Ireland to promote their latest album Ocean of Frequency. In case you haven’t heard, their sound is a cacophony of soaring synths, floating vocals and dancefloor-oriented drum grooves. The once three piece Hate Rock Trio, now HTRK, will be returning to Australia on the back of their new album Work, Work, Work. After a tragic last year when they lost their bass player to suicide, the remaining duo have worked hard to release an album that reflects their loss yet ushers in their new direction. They haven’t played a show in Australia for somewhere in the order of five years but they’ll be playing Goodgod Small Club. A perfectly intimate venue for their minimal, atmospheric noise pop. Supports by Lost Animal and Kirin J Callinan. On Friday 25th November local beat maestro Katalyst is back with a new solo album after taking time to embark on his successful Space Invadas project with Steve Spacek. The album Deep Impressions will be his first solo release since 2007’s What’s Happening and it is equally if not even more eclectic than its predecessor. At Goodgod Small Club, Los Angeles experimental beat producer Daedelus will be redefining live electronic performance as he promotes his latest EP Overwhelmed. His renowned live sets consist of old samples layered with glitchy beats and synths all while he’s dressed in Victorian-era coat with tails. Support by locals Collarbones and Galapagoose. Over at Notes Live you can catch a real Jamaican reggae music pioneer in Stranger Cole. Since the days of early rocksteady to Cole has worked with greats such as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Prince Buster and Clement ‘Coxscone’ Dodd. In addition to the living legend support will be provided by Sydney’s champion reggae outfit King Tide. On Saturday 26th November, inner West hip-hop collective Thundamentals launch their third and finest album to date Foreverlution at the Oxford Arts Factory. These guys are developing a reputation for being one of the most exciting live acts in Aussie hip-hop and a packed OAF should be the perfect venue to witness this if you haven’t done so to date. Alternatively, Upstairs at The Beresford Hotel, inner-west psychedelic dub-rock group Sticky Fingers will be delivering their raucous live show. They’ve been known to upstage pretty much any other act they’ve supported and one can only imagine what lengths of stage shenanigans they’ll embark on during their own headline show. They’ll be supported on the night by Saloons and Bec And Ben.
