LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide November 3rd

Thursday 3rd sees amazing Chinese punk trio Carsick Cars arrive to promote their newest album You Can Listen You Can Talk. They really are something to behold as they combine clanging drums, thumping bass and trashy guitars with bellowing punk vocals. Their claim to fame has been a European tour in support of the noise rock pioneers Sonic Youth. They’ll be joined at Fbi Social by locals Mere Women and Adelaidians Rites Wild. Soul reggae quartet Jesse Morris & The Three Beans will be bringing the sunshine vibes when they launch their new single ‘Should I go’ at Notes Live.  They’ll have support from across the Tasman by Julian Temple. Parisian beat merchant Onra brings his smoked out hip hop to the Oxford Arts Factory. His album Chinoiseries is an amazing trip through vintage Chinese and Vietnamese records which he gathered and sampled on a trip to Vietnam.

On Friday 4th you can be fortunate enough to catch TIm Finn at the Metro Theatre in support of his new album The View Is Worth The Climb. Along with performances of his new material he’ll be playing a selection of classics from his Split Enz days. The Crooked Fiddle Band are launching their new album titled Overgrown Tales at The Factory Theatre. This band of gypsies and their brand of self proclaimed ‘chainsaw folk’ is raucously energetic and infectious so it’ll be a rocking show. Wear your dancing shoes to this one. Brisbanian songstress Emma Louise will be playing her brand of indie pop over at Good God Small Club. Her haunting vocals seem to float over pretty arpeggiated guitars and she’ll undoubtedly play her catchy single ‘Jungle’. Over at the Basement you can catch a real piece of history in Big Jay McNeely and The Adam Hall Band. The legendary sax player has played with rhythm and blues greats such as Etta James, Little Richard and Junior Wells amongst others. McNeely is now 84 years old so they don’t get much more experienced than him. Supports on the night will be DJ Limpin’ Jimmy & The Swingin Kitten.

Saturday 5th Indie rock darling Laura Imbruglia is launching her new single ‘Why’d You Have To Kiss Me So Hard?’ at Fbi Social. She’s witty, bold and holding her own against her elder famous sister. She’ll be supported by Magnetic Heads, Polyfox And The Union and Of The Most Ghosts. After spending the last six months wowing audiences in Europe, kiwi group Shapeshifter are returning to our shores. These guys really have to be seen to be believed as they are one of the most energetic bands to come from across the Tasman. They’ll be demonstrating their live prowess at The Metro Theatre.

On Sunday 6th Melbourne artist Kikuyu will be offering the perfect soundtrack to a springtime Sunday evening The Vanguard when she launches her album Hunter Gathered. It’s a wonderful ethereal pop album that features looped vocal harmonies, Casio keyboard beats and an italian combo organ.
