LIVE WIRE- Sydney Live Music Guide Nov 10th

Thursday November 10th you can catch soul-R&B diva Alphamama at 505. She’s got that smooth, jazzy neo-soul vibe with elements of roots reggae and funk and has been known to make audience members ecstatic with her soulful all girl band The Love Drug. Not long after taking a year off overseas she’ll be playing tunes from her recent self titled EP. On Friday November 11th Melbourne indie noise-pop collective Rat Vs Possum are launching their new album Let Music & Bodies Unite at FBi Social. Their music is a combination of indie grooves, repetitive vocal hooks and ambient sound effects and samples. Pretty mesmerising stuff. They’ll be joined by FLRL, Fishing and DJ sets by Simo Soo, Richard In Your Mind and Nick Rave & The Bad Speed.  The sun never sets on the music of Sunshine Coasters The Mank. They’re playing at The Beach Rd Hotel and will be displaying their dub-reggae credentials when they sample tunes from their upcoming debut EP. At the Metro Theatre Jinja Safari will be promoting their latest release Locked By The Land which is a compilation of their first two EPs and a bunch of remixes. They’re dreamy and melodic and they’re known for their uplifting live shows. In short, it’s going to be a hit! Saturday November 12th after a killer run of shows culminating with Splendour In The Grass, Brisbane two-piece The Grates will be playing the Metro Theatre as part of their latest national tour. They’re brash, energetic and fun and try as you might, you’d have your work cut out for you if you tried to bounce around on the dancefloor more than singer Patience does on stage. On Sunday November 13th you can catch Riot Dance Party at FBi Social. They’re a Japanese two-piece bass and drum unit and the band name pretty much describes their sound perfectly. They’re a strange combination of punk and dancefloor beats and aided by samples and crazy fuzz pedals they’re sure to send anyone present into a high energy dance frenzy. They’ll be supported by The Filthy Seed, The Smallest City and The Slippery Gypsies. Lastly, on Monday November 15th, UK group This Town Needs Guns are playing an intimate side show at the Vanguard while they’re in town for the Harvest Festival. They’re a truly unique band that combines indie pop with math rock and while the genres are unlikely bed fellows TTNG do it with such grace and aplomb. Their debut Animals is an amazing album crafted of noodling and intertwined guitar melodies, dreamy soundscapes and floating vocals. The rhythms are complex yet at no point is the music overwhelming and it would be well worthwhile to get along to their show.
