LIVE WIRE – Thurs Sept 29th

On Friday 30th The Red Rattler presents Wet Hair from the USA. Refined insanity comes to mind when trying to describe these noise rockers and as usual a mind-blowing live performance is to be expected. Supported by Kitchen Floor from Brisbane and Chrome Dome from Melbourne. Also on Friday, Falcona Records takes over the Oxford Arts Factory for a label showcase. The night features Cadillac, Mrs Bishop and the Fundamentals along with a whole host of label affiliated DJs.

Saturday 1st genre-bending pop trio Akron/Family (USA) are playing the Sydney leg of their Cosmic Birth tour at the Annandale Hotel. They’ll be joined by local experimental space quintet Richard In Your Mind. Over at the Manning Bar Jack Ladder will be showcasing the melancholy sounds from his latest release Hurtsville. He’ll be joined by Ghoul while at The Factory Theatre the cleverly named alt rock locals Bayonets for Legs will be playing the home leg of their national tour to promote their second EP The Coloured Air.

On Sunday 2nd California punk rockers Pour Habit are touring their album Got Your Back which was released earlier this year. They’re playing at the Gaelic Theatre.

Thursday 6th Booker T. Jones will be playing his electric brand of soul, rhythm and blues  at Metro Theatre. The backing band from his latest album The Road from Memphis featured members of The Roots and features vocals by Sharon Jones and Lou Reed. Alternatively, indie group Sealion is playing at the Annandale Hotel with support from Sleepyhands, We Are Volcanoes and Them Dreamers.

On Friday 7th a unique night is being presented at the Basement. There will be an exclusive screening of War Child a documentary about  Emmanuel Jal a former child soldier during the Sudanese civil war who survives against the odds to become a recording hip-hop artist. The screening will be followed by a live performance by Jal with support from Ghanaian DJ and producer DJ Silvastone. Across town at FBi Social, Foreign Dub’ presents Nomad from New Zealand who will be performing tracks off his new album Perilous Times which blends reggae, drum & bass and dubstep.

Saturday 8th The Paper Scissors show off their brand of electro indie dance pop at the Kings Cross Hotel. Supported by Guerre, March of the Real Fly and The Ghosts.
