Dangerous ideas come to Sydney
For those weary of banal conversation, the Sydney Opera House is providing an attractive alternative this October: The Festival of Dangerous Ideas.

This year’s festival will feature a range of provocative speakers who will cover topics such as ‘all women are sluts’, ‘Australia is a third rate country’ and ‘If you want fidelity, get a dog’.

“I’m hoping that we’ll disturb the tranquillity of dinner tables across the city – prompting squabbles, straining relationships and inciting spirited debate – all in the cause of clarifying what we really think about matters”, said Dangerous Ideas co-curator Simon Longstaff.

The festival will host a range of Australian speakers, including former High Court Justice Michael Kirby, Euthanasia advocate Phillip Nitschke and award winning journalist David Marr.

There will also be American novelist Jonathon Safran Foer, Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek, and former speech writer for President George W. Bush, Mark Theissen.

The festival begins October 1.
