Best Pop-Up Pub we hope is here to stay: Freaky Tiki

Like a phoenix from the ashes of the old Newtown Hotel, the quirky, kitsch and downright jungle world of Freaky Tiki rose early in 2011 as the hottest pop-up pavilion in the Inner West. Decked out like a bad Hawaiian party bag with plastic hibiscus vines, bamboo, beach umbrellas, voodoo skulls and Pirates of the Caribbean on repeat, this party pub earned a killer local reputation sporting various happy hours with $3 spirits, Donkey Punch bowls of cocktails and $4 dumplings from the infamous Bamboo Dumpling Bar. Paraded originally as a temporary beverage stand, this watering hole is the venue Newtown hopes will stay freaky. (Bridie Connellan) 174 King St, Newtown
