LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide July 7th

Thursday 7th finds the inaugural Siamese night at Goodgod Small Club on Liverpool St in Sydney’s CBD. Siberia Records and Chocolate Jesus Industries are teaming up for the first time, with this week’s show offering emerging Sydney gems like Brous, Donny Benet, Kirin J. and Erik Omen. At Sydney’s premier jazz venue, 505 on Cleveland St, everyone’s favourite roots music gentleman Declan Kelly is playing with his fantastic band – definitely a must see for those not familiar with his uplifting soul-reggae. Friday 8th is the day. Female folk super group Seeker Lover Keeper will be performing material from their debut collaboration at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville that same night, and also on Friday, The Panics will rock the socks off Oxfordat Art Factory with the wonderful Grace Woodroofe in support. On Saturday 9th, the Red Rattler in Marrickville is hosting Musica de Fuego, a charity event by Chiapas Solidarity Sydney to support autonomous indigenous communities in Chiapas, Mexico. The Rumjacks, Top Novil, Rocksteady Dub Militia and Handsome Young Strangers are all lending their services for the cause. Anyone interested in some full-on heavy metal can find it in Ouroboros who will be playing the Gaelic Club on Devonshire St, Surry Hills – these guys have just finished a tour with Morbid Angel and The Amenta, so catch them while they’re hot! Monday 11th and back at 505 the enticing notion of the Jeremy Rose Quartet is reason enough to go out on a school night. Rose, a founder and writer for The Strides and The Vampires, amongst others, is one of Sydney’s most accomplished young saxophone players, definitely a must see for jazz fans. Soul siren and hip hop superfox, Alphamama is launching an E.P. at the fabulous Tone in Surry Hills on Wednesday 13th. Make sure you get there for the exceptional supports in the form of Danny G Felix, Milan and Ngaiire. Brooding indie darlings Alpine are at Oxford Art Factory on Thursday 14th with Boy In A Box and Camden– worth a look – and a trio of promising young Blue Mountains bands are at the Basement in Circular Quay. They are Kooyeh, The Raw Tide and Bones and All – good vibes for sure (especially if you’re form the mountains!). Friday 15th has indigenous soul crooner Dan Sultan playing at the fantastic and intimate Brass Monkey in Cronulla, with Oh Mercy’s Alexander Gow on board for the night, as well. Also on the 15th, U.K. producer/DJ duo The Nextmen are back in town for one show only at Oxford Art Factory. Saturday 16th is Major Raiser at The Gaelic Club on Devonshire St, Surry Hills, with Parades, Rüfüs and Bon Chat Bon Rat heading up the bill for the fundraiser event (although what the funds are being raised for isn’t entirely clear). Also on Saturday, Aussie disco-pop heavyweights Miami Horror are performing at the Metro Theatre in the CBD, with Gold Fields in support, get in quick!
