It’s nice to see venues in The Rocks gradually eroding the area’s once-deserved reputation for tourist traps serving up overpriced and underwhelming cuisine. While this one’s unlikely to win awards for anything other than chocolate, your non-chocolate identified companion won’t starve while you indulge your favourite vice. If you can manage a morsel yourself, the Blue Cheese and Nashi Pear Salad ($22) with dates, pecans and a raspberry vinaigrette lines the stomach nicely. While the Quiche Lorraine ($15.20) was nothing to write home about, the Beef Pie ($15.55) won fans with big, meaty hunks of beef, and a side salad that didn’t seem to know how late it was on a Sunday night. After surveying the cakes, we settled for a round of milkshakes instead. At nearly twelve bucks each, that’s a whole lot of expectation in a glass. From the standout Strawberry Shake ($11.25), to the Banana and Chocolate ($11.25) that tasted like a paddle pop of yesteryear, to the praline-rich signature Guylian Shake ($11.25) that even raised a smile from our non-chocophile; they were fabulous (but unjustifiably expensive). If you want one anyway, hurry in while you can still take advantage of a cheap meal as part of the Tour de Foodie promotion running throughout May.
