Letter to the editor: Neighbourhood BBQ’s a good thing

Letter to the editor: Neighbourhood BBQ’s a good thing

I fully support the City of Sydney’s Good Neighbourhood BBQs program [Good Neighbourhood BBQs: not an election tactic, 10.03.2011 and earlier].

Although, unlike other councils around Australia these are not specifically  branded as Neighbour Day events, the aims are just the same – to encourage neighbours to connect on the last Sunday in March.

When residents are active and engaged with their local community we create suburbs and towns that are inclusive, tolerant and safe. I have attended the Glebe bbq in the past and left impressed by both the organisation of the event and the strong participation of residents.

Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community. It unites us wherever we choose to call home and how you celebrate is limited only by the imagination of you and your neighbours.

Best of all, it’s free. For more information and a free kit visit www.neighbourday.org
