ADALITA – ADALITA

ADALITA – ADALITA

Adalita has risen from relative silence with an album that portrays a newer, slower character; a weary rock n’ roll beauty with a healthy swag of demons to expunge, which she does very well through these 10 stark songs. Adalita started playing solo shows a few years ago, and it was the much-beloved Dean Turner who coaxed her into beginning a solo project. Turner helped with the production of this record before he sadly passed away, and thankfully things were kept to a bare minimum. Adalita’s sound palate consists almost solely of her electric guitar – sometimes reverberant and spacious, sometimes clanging and menacing, and her voice – clear and melodic, frustrated and fearless. It’s the lack of a band behind her that makes you sit up and listen – the heavy lullaby Perfection and the sneering, eerie rock of Goin Down are thrilling highlights. Listening hard, you’ll notice the odd percussive explosion or piano tinkle, and Lassa Hanta provides a curious ambient interlude to Adalita’s dark and stormy musings. This is good stuff, unadorned and distilled into the essence of songwriting – just a human being and her guitar.
