Writer-fest returns to Callan Park

For most writers, the constant turnover of new ideas, angles and inspiration is crucial to the creative process. The NSW Writers’ Centre aims to harness this ‘creative spark’ at the fifth annual Children’s and Young Adult Literature Festival, to be held at its premises in Callan Park on Saturday, July 3, between 10am and 6pm.

Festival Curator and author Susanne Gervay said it aimed to encompass the journey of creativity, from the initial stages to completed works. “It invites curiosity and exploration in a welcoming and interactive environment,” she said.

The Festival will incorporate discussions, panels and networking events with leading Australian authors, publishers, editors, literary agents, illustrators and scriptwriters. There will also be opportunities for emerging writers to have their work critiqued by industry experts, or pitch their idea to publishing professionals.

Crime writer Gabrielle Lord, author of the best-selling thriller series Conspiracy 365, will open the Festival. Other guests appearing throughout the program include fantasy writers Kate Forsyth (The Puzzle Ring, The Wildkin’s Curse) and Deborah Abela (Max Remy Superspy); author of The Samurai Kids series, Sandy Fussell; wildlife photographer and author Jan Latta; and representatives from HarperCollins, Random House and Wombat Books.
