Which famous inner west gastro pub will be hosting Foodie Trivia on Monday nights in the very near future? Challenges will include naming ingredients in dishes prepared by their talented Head Chef Brad Sloane to win dinners at some of Sydney’s best restaurants. Yes, I’m bad with secrets – it’s The Riverview. I was there again last week for an excellent Spanish Acquisition Wine Merchant Dinner which saw dishes like a Spanish Picnic of air dried tuna, white anchovies and Serrano ham being paired with Spanish wines and sherries like the nutty, accessible Sanchez Romate Amontillado N.P.U., Jerez. Their next wine dinner is pencilled in for Bastille Day.

French Peasant Chic
Sydney’s in love with farmer’s markets at the moment (for good reason). The only thing that could be better that chatting to and buying from the people who actually raise or grow your food is sticking those items in one of these gorgeous French market baskets. Can’t you just see your Brasserie Bread loaf poking out, with a bunch of organic celery, and a dozen Organic Ways biodynamic eggs? They’re functional and practical, but there’s a little French romance in there too.

Frozen Delights
While this weather seems determined to yo-yo, don’t underestimate the joy a take-home pack of Igloo Zoo fro-yo can provide when it’s sitting in your home freezer. They’re not cheap at $14.95 each for 1.2L, with toppings an additional $2, but they are 99.5% fat free. Try their Bondi store at 101 Hall Street, Bondi Beach.

Winter Warmers
If the smell of freshly roasted chestnuts, the taste of mulled wine and thick Italian hot chocolate, and the salty pleasure of a warm pretzel sounds enticing, diarise Winterland at Sydney’s cultural hub CarriageWorks this July 5-31. The biggest enticement will be the massive indoor ice-skating rink, but after slipping and sliding about, you can also sooth your aches with alpine cuisine, art and design in the Winter Markets while listening to the best local emerging and established bands.
