Last chance to see Balmain workers

The “Balmain Workers Help Make Our Nation” exhibition has run very successfully throughout April, but if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, you’ve still got a chance to catch the photographs from the suburb’s industrial past. “The managements of the soap and edible oil factories, timber yards, sail makers, chemical factories, the coal mine and boat builders, knew no such thing as OH&S back then,” said exhibition co-ordinator June Lunsmann. The exhibition is open on Saturday, April 24, between 11.30am and 4pm, at the Watch House, 179 Darling Street, Balmain. Above: a delivery of a new boiler to Lever Bros, in 1914.
