AUSTRALIAN FILM FESTIVAL

AUSTRALIAN FILM FESTIVAL

This year the fest meets the east, the Eastern suburbs that is. The iconic Randwick Ritz Cinema will play host to an array of Australian classics, features which prelude a Q&A session with creators of the film and closing day festivities that include an intriguing film themed food festival and an initiation of a new member to the Australian Film Walk of Fame. There are some impressive collaborations on the list this year. Director Megan Doneman’s, Yes, Madam Sir, a documentary about India’s first female police officer Kiran Bedi looks set to sizzle and the Australian-Croatian production Penelope based on The Odyssey is a poetic journey full of drama and lyricism. There is even a promising light-hearted comedy, Girl Clock, about 40-something women who actually look 40-something. Opening night will see an Aussie road rage like no other with a reunion of original cast and crew of Mad Max for a very special session of Popcorn Taxi. And let’s not forget the kids. Cinema by the Sea will screen the infectious Happy Feet under the dusty skies of Clovelly beach. Sun, surf and quality films on the east side – what more can we ask for?

Feb 24-Mar 7, Ritz Cinema (45 St Pauls St Randwick), Clovelly Beach, Coogee Legion Club (200 Arden St Coogee), $13-30, 9399 5722 or australianfilmfestival.com.au
