Marrickville gets a piece of the stimulus pie

Marrickville Council has launched several new projects which will receive funding from the Federal Government’s Community Infrastructure Program.

Marrickville Mayor Sam Iskandar, accompanied by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and local MP Anthony Albanese, announced the recipients for the grant money earlier this month.

“A total [of] $493,000 in funding support has been provided for these grassroots projects,” Cr Iskandar said. “The completed projects will be of great benefit to the community and will address a number of pressing needs for our recreation and community infrastructure.”

The funding was a set allocation to Marrickville Council, out of a total of $250 million in stimulus package funding. Council was then required to nominate for approval projects to undertake with the funding. Successful applications include a $264,000 upgrade to Arlington Reserve, new kitchens for Marrickville and St Peter’s Town Halls, and $164,000 earmarked for new shade structures in several parks.
