Coming up in November

October 24: Food for the Future Fair in Kensington Street, Chippendale, from 10am on Saturday. Come along and enjoy fresh, low-cost produce in the midst of art and gardening workshops, tours of local galleries and talks by Sydney food personalities. In particular, don’t miss the launch of the Chippendale Fresh Food Co-operative, to be officially opened by food writer John Newton.

October 25: The 15th ‘Back to Balmain’ Day, in Elkington Park, once again calls all new and former residents of Balmain to meet their neighbours. The day’s program includes the Honebrook Dancers, Birchgrove Public School and Leichhardt bands, and the archives room at the Dawn Fraser Baths opening up for viewing. From 10am to 5pm.

October 28: Comedy master Jimeoin performs at Tigers Balmain from 7.30pm. A prolific writer with an exceptional audience rapport, he is known and loved for his brilliantly funny wit and charming observations on the absurdities of every-day life. Tickets $35.

November 1: Leichhardt resident Selena Thurbon has a local motorcycle business in Annandale. She invites all motorcyclists in the inner west along to the Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride, to support the fight against breast cancer. Registration is available via the website www.pinkribbonride.com. The Ride is now into its ninth year and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer charities in that time. Venue is at Club Marconi in Bossley Park.

November 7-8: The Balmain Art & Craft Show will take place at the historical buildings of Father John Therry School. From 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Now into its 14th year, the show brings together over 200 Australian and international artists, ranging from the contemporary to the traditional. For details, visit www.balmainartandcraftshow.com.au

November 8: The Newtown Festival, Sydney’s most iconic free community festival, returns for another year. As well as being famed for the great selection of music always on display, the Festival is a unique community gathering which celebrates diversity, as well as being a terrific springboard into the summer season of sun and festivities. This year’s lineup includes Hermitude, Dead Letter Chorus, Deep Sea Arcade, The Crayon Fields and plenty more. Details at www.newtowncentre.org/festival
