On a few hours notice 30 opponents of the Rees Government’s CBD metro rail proposal gathered outside Parliament House in Macquarie Street to protest against the project whose EIA was put on display on September 9.

They were addressed by Opposition transport spokesperson Gladys Berejiklian, Leichhardt Mayor Jamie Parker, CFMEU State President Peter McClelland, Greens State transport spokesperson Lee Rhiannon, Pyrmont-Ultimo Chamber of Commerce head Lawrence Gibbon and EcoTransit Sydney spokesperson Gavin Gatenby.

Speakers highlighted the fact that more important rail projects for the western suburbs could be built for much less than the CBD Metro and attacked the destruction of heritage buildings at Union Square and Rozelle that would result from the metro.
