Coming up in September

• The Sydney College of the Arts is holding its 2009 Open Day on Saturday, August 29. The day will feature information on undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as arts markets, demonstrations, exhibitions, tours and entertainment.

• After the ‘epic’ success of the previous three instalments, Leichhardt Youth Council is staging the fourth episode of the annual Something Really Epic Band Competition on Friday, September 11. Acts appearing on the night will include Psychic Mind Beams, Violent Candy, The Enzymes, The Disadvantaged, Artificial International, Dis’chords and Face Amaze. Tickets are $10 at the door; the evening kicks off at 7pm, running through to around 11pm.

• The Marrickville Cultural Festival will be running throughout September. Amongst other events, the month-long celebrations will include:
– the documentary premiere of Wheels in Motion, revisiting the campaign by local residents to preserve the historic Tempe tram depot site;
– the Sydney Underground Film Festival;
– Scandal, Crime and Corruption, consisting of tours exploring the dark and mysterious underbelly of the local area; and
– ‘Cut + Paste’, the Sustainable Craft Fest and Makers Market.
A street festival across Marrickville and Illawarra roads on Sunday, September 27, will bring the curtain down on the festival in spectacular style. For details, check www.marrickville.nsw.gov.au

• Sydney Secondary College presents ‘Music in the Park’ on Saturday, September 19, between 2pm and 5pm in Pioneer Park, Leichhardt. The event is sponsored by Leichhardt Council and will feature the musical groups of the College, as well as a professional band and a local primary school band.

• On Sunday, September 20, the Sydney Running Festival will be winding its way through the inner west on its way to the city. The event hopes to raise $2 million for charity, with 29,000 entrants expected to run across the four events being staged. Road closures will be in force in Rozelle, Lilyfield and Haberfield.
