Police continue to investigate Leichhardt rape

It is not too late for anyone who has information about the rape of a teenager in Leichhardt to come forward, police say.

Detectives from the Joint Investigation Response Squad are continuing to investigate the incident, involving a 14-year-old girl, which occurred on Tuesday, June 30. The girl told police she walking down Norton Street at around 5pm, when a black four-wheel drive containing four men pulled up beside her.

She said she was forced into the vehicle and driven to Perry Lane, parallel to Lilyfield Road.

There, it is alleged that two of the men held her down in the vehicle, while a third raped her.

The girl told police she was then released and ran home. She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for examination.

Detective Inspector Mike Edgtton told The Daily Telegraph that he thought the girl was coping reasonably well after the incident.

The abduction is said to have taken place at the northern end of Norton Street, near Lilyfield Road. Police believe it to be an isolated incident.

Detective Inspector Edgtton said that police believe there would have been a number of people around the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident, the vehicle or the four men.

A police spokesperson said detectives had so far been encouraged by the calls that they have received from the public and added they would particularly appreciate any information from the public about the identities of the four men.
