Can a movie about grief and loss be charming? In this case, it can, as it follows newly widowed father Pietro (Nanni Moretti) and his daughter Claudia (Blu Yoshimi). They’re both dealing with the irreversibility of death, but this is not a clear-cut tale of tragedy. Instead, Pietro takes his wife’s passing as an opportunity to eschew the rat-race, and camp out in the little park opposite his daughter’s school. There, he mingles with the school mums, the dog walkers, the café owners. He calmly watches time pass, with his inner chaos only occasionally bubbling to the surface in stirring, solitary scenes. As a study of the love shared between a parent and their child, Quiet Chaos‘ message comes in loud and clear.
