MY YEAR WITHOUT SEX

MY YEAR WITHOUT SEX

This new Australian film documents the life of a young family over the period of a year, as they struggle with children, religion, money, health and a complete lack of sex. My Year Without Sex is frank and genuine, which is its virtue but unfortunately also its vice. Despite bright and vivid colouring, themed sequences for each month, and being set in an energetic and chaotic household, this movie feels somewhat artless. Matt Day and Sarah Horler, as the couple in question, are endearing and hilarious. However, relying on a script that is a little too average, they never quite manage to make us feel the depth of their relationship. An easy, entertaining watch, but do not harbour any great expectations. (Trischelle Roberts)
