MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D

This remake of the classic 1981 Canadian horror film updates the action, incorporating new 3D technology ‘ some techniques were developed especially for this film. Those familiar with the original, which Tarantino called ‘the best slasher film of all time’, will recognise the challenges inherent in this project. While the earlier scenes remain closer to the shock and gore of the low-budget original, this quickly turns into a more character-focused film. My Bloody Valentine‘s plotline is unusually detailed for a horror film and director Patrick Lussier ‘ who cut his teeth working for Wes Craven ‘ has chosen to focus on this element. The 3D technology attempts to make this movie a visceral experience, and is focused on enhancing empathy with the characters. Only occasionally is it dedicated to classic ‘gore’ moments. While the plotline is a huge part of what made the original brilliant, I still found myself wishing for more ‘old school’ horror. (Trischelle Roberts)
