EXHIBITION: REMIXED

EXHIBITION: REMIXED

PREVIEW BY LACHLAN JOBBINS

The photographic collective Epiphany was formed in 2007 by a group of young photographers, most of whom attended SIT. They held their first group show last year, and now present their latest at Medium, Rare this weekend.

It’s been interesting to see the work develop from interpretive assignments with strictly controlled subject matter to more fluid, personal statements. Twelve months later, the current show is stronger, but just as personal.

Every photograph invites a second look. More than mere reflections of reality, their images invite responses from more than one angle. ‘To us the difference between the photographer as an individual and the photographer as a documenter seems fundamental. The separation of photography as art from photography as a record.’

In an industry where seemingly everything has to be turned into product for market, it’s nice to see some people trying to put the art back in. Includes photos by Kosta Korsovitis, Angelina Potapova, Angela Turnbull, Ian Murphy, Clara Lee, Cesar Ocampo, Robert Johnston, Lauren Tierney and Alicia Lansdown.

6-8 Feb. Medium, Rare Gallery, 70 Regent St, Redfern. Opening 6 Feb at 6pm.
