SYDNEY FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHT: BECK’S FESTIVAL BAR

BY TRISCHELLE ROBERTS

The Beck’s Festival Bar is, by now, well established as one of the most exciting, accessible and diverse music events of the Sydney calendar. The final eight shows, spread across the next two weeks, are a collection of brilliantly curated nights.

On Thursday 22nd, eclectic and innovative DJ/producer Z Trip will share the stage with Australian hip hop originators TZU.

Presented by Future Music, The Disco Nouveau night (on Friday 23rd) features Holy Ghost!: direct from New York City, and surrounded by the well-deserved hype that comes from being signed to the esteemed DFA record label.

Sydney-based Canyons add a touch of dubbed-out psychedelia to the prevalent disco element, while Idjut Boys and Theatre of Disco will no doubt bring the hilarity as well as the noise.

Celebrated songstress Camille will grace the stage on Tuesday 27th, blending classic French chanson with expressive avant-garde delivery. The Mad Racket crew assist to end the 2009 Festival Bar on a high-note, featuring Daedelus of Ninja Tune fame with his rich, left-field blends.

Until January 31. Hyde Park Barracks Museum, cnr Macquarie Street and Prince Albert Road. Tickets: $28-$48, 9520 7777 or www.sydneyfestival.org.au
