WHERE IN THE WORLD IS OSAMA BIN LADEN?
Feature documentarian Morgan Spurlock has laudably taken on a more contentious subject matter than McDonalds with his latest, Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden’ Thank goodness, because he has the smarts to say more than he did with big break Super Size Me. The premise is simple ‘ Spurlock travels around the Middle East looking for Bin Laden, gathering opinions a propos the War On Terror. The most important function of this piece is to place onscreen a diversity of laughing, loving Arabic peoples with a multiplicity of beliefs ‘ many who practise Islam as a source of compassion. The film regularly surprises with its poignancy, but if I were to level one criticism it would be that the frenetic style of editing favoured in these documentaries sometimes clips a deeper pathos.
