The tide is turning at Cook + Phillip Park

Located within the parkland on the fringes of Sydney’s CBD, Cook + Phillip Park offers world-class indoor swimming, fitness, sporting and recreational facilities.
Despite past problems, Brendan Owens, the centre manager of Cook and Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre, says that he wants the public to know that the Centre is open for business and under new management.
Since February this year, the YMCA of Sydney has been managing the centre on behalf of the City of Sydney Council.
‘We [YMCA] are very excited about the opportunities this centre has,’ Mr Owen says. ‘It’s an amazing centre, in a perfect surrounding with some outstanding facilities.’
The centre has undergone some structural changes with renovations on the roofing of the forecourt to fix leakages.
‘Due to extensive works to the forecourt upstairs, there has been a general perception that the place is closed, which has never been the case,’ Mr Owens said.
‘We are very excited about the hoardings coming down so people can see first hand that we are in actual fact open!’
The YMCA offer a range of programs to suit all ages and abilities including lunchtime and evening community sports competitions, group fitness activities, swimming classes and a rehabilitation and sports injury centre.
