I went into this modest Glebe Point Road offering expecting little more than decent, inexpensive suburban Vietnamese. Imagine my surprise when I strolled through the large foyer (perfect if you want to wait in comfort for take-away) into a warm, child-friendly family restaurant with an amazing city view! The décor is nothing special; but the staff are friendly, chatty and a touch quirky. My only warning would be, don’t read your horoscope on the wall unless you’re feeling particularly bullet-proof! The best things I put in my mouth were the Vietnamese Salty Prawns/Calamari ($17.80) ‘ the ‘barely there’ batter that coats them is quite amazing. The Vietnamese Pancake ($7.90) is a large serve (and a very credible non-soggy one at that) ‘ apparently using soda water in the batter is the key. My final selection from the Vietnamese offerings was the Bo Luc Lac ($16.80) ‘ whilst not as buttery as most, it was compelling in its own way. From the Malaysian side of things, the Beef Rendang ($13.50) wasn’t quite as good as my partner’s home cooked version. The few wines they have are inexpensive and appropriate, or there’s Coconut Juice ($4.00). All up, a well-priced local restaurant with a magnificent view.
